When a
person performs street magic, he/she
is removing the boundaries of a stage and putting him/herself in a
close proximity with an audience. Usually in street magic, there are
limited props, no mirrors, and no assistants.
Street magic is also called naked magic. To
create the maximum effect, illusions are kept really simple by using
everyday common objects. With no stage is involved, nor assistants to
worry about paying, street magicians can earn a lot of money by just
being in the right location with the right act.
As you learn how to do street magic,
you
must understand that the best way to amaze your audience is by
maximizing them. You can do this by asking members of the audience to
participate and using your voice to attract more people to your act.
As
you work the audience to applaud for you or shout for you, there will
end up being a lot of curious people trying to figure out where all the
commotion is coming from. If you ever go to a fair or carnival where
there are performers, you will realize that performers do this with
their audiences to attract more spectators.
Once you have a good sized audience, you
will need to draw them in even more. You don’t want them
walking away as fast as they arrived.
You can do this by moving closer
to them. This allows for more people to hear you. It is even a good
idea when learning how to do street magic with a crowd that you ask
small children to sit in front.
As you plan your act, you should make sure
that the weather is working with you, not against you. If
it’s windy, it will be really difficult to perform a card
trick, for example. If you need to, wait for a wind-free day for a card
trick, and instead do some coin tricks.
With an outdoor crowd, you will want to keep
your act fairly short. They won’t want to stick around as you
set up and take down various props, etc. They are more concerned about
why they are out in the first place.
As you are learning how to do street magic,
keep these suggestions in mind. They will help you be more successful
while performing to groups in close proximities.
